Barbara Marini, President-Elect ASID
Barbara Marini has been actively engaged in interior design education for over fifteen years, including the College for Creative Studies and Eastern Michigan University. She has owned her own commercial interior design firm, Marini Interiors, Inc. since 1987. Ms. Marini, FASID/IDEC interior design program chair at the International Academy of Design and Technology in Troy, MI has been elected as President-Elect of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) from October 2011- September 2012. Ms. Marini has served on the ASID National Board of Directors and on several national councils and committees including the Legislative Codes and Advisory Council, Chair of the ASID Student Advisory Council and member of the Chapter Support Team (CST). She currently chairs the Council of Fellows. She holds both Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Science degrees in interior design and Specialist of Arts degree in Educational Leadership. Ms. Marini is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership with a focus on creativity in education.

Seminar 1: Shashi Caan, Partner, The Collective
Founding partner of The Collective; an innovative US/UK based multidisciplinary architecture and design firm. Formerly a Design Director & Associate Partner with Skidmore Owings and Merrill Architects, and the Chair of the Interiors Department at Parsons The New School For Design, she was the US National 'Designer of Year’ 2004, and ‘Educator of Year for Greater New York’ in 2006. Winner of numerous international awards and recognitions as both a designer and educator, she is the current President of the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI), and a member of the Executive Committee of the International Design Alliance (IDA)

Seminar 2: Exploring the Endless Possibilities of a Sustainable Business
Jim Hartzfeld, Managing Director, InterfaceRAISE, LLC, Past Chairman of the Board, U.S. Green Building Council
As Managing Director of InterfaceRAISE, Jim helps organizations weave sustainability into the fabric of everything they do, accelerating their learning, while enhancing their value and fulfilling their mission. Through InterfaceRAISE's consulting services, Jim shares his experience gained through guiding Interface on its own technical and cultural transformation as well as his work with organizations such as the US Green Building Council, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, and the President's Council on Sustainable Development. At InterfaceRAISE, Jim advises Fortune 1000 companies on their own sustainability initiatives in sectors as diverse as aviation, food and beverage, architecture, and manufacturing. Jim has also served as a strategic advisor to Walmart. Jim's enthusiasm and conviction make him a sought-after mentor and speaker throughout the world. His expertise extends to such topics as the sustainability business case, corporate culture change, Appreciative Inquiry, environmental impact of buildings, LEED® certification, the U.S. Green Building Council, selling sustainability to stakeholders and more. He has been quoted in numerous publications, including the Wall Street Journal and Fortune Magazine, and co-authored Interface's globally recognized Sustainability Report with Paul Hawken and others.
Formerly with Conoco Oil Company and DuPont, Jim holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Missouri and an MBA from the Goizueta Business School of Emory University. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Georgia Conservancy, the Sustainability Committee of The Westminster Schools of Atlanta, and the Board of Advisors of Greenspaces, a Special Economic Zone in New Delhi, India. He currently resides with his wife and two children in Marietta, Georgia.

Juliana Catlin is the Principal of Catlin Design and has led her firm to excellence for over 30 years. She has won numerous awards and has been featured in many publications. Juliana has been a thought leader on ethical and professional standards in the design profession and speaks on visionary leadership around the country. She is a Past National President and a Fellow Member of ASID and served as the Inaugural Chair of the ASID Foundation Board. She is a graduate of the University of Florida, with Bachelor of Design from the College of Architecture.

David Koren is an Associate Principal and the Director of Marketing at Perkins Eastman, the largest architecture firm in New York. He is responsible for providing overall marketing strategy, leading the firm’s business development efforts, and supervising marketing staff in the firm's 13 offices around the United States and abroad. Prior to joining Perkins Eastman, David was a Senior Associate and Marketing Director of Gensler's Northeast Region for more than 8 years. In January 2008, David was named one of the "40 under 40" in Building Design & Construction Magazine.
Panel Experts:
Alan M. Siegel is a partner in the law firm of Levy Sonet & Siegel, LLP, 630 Third Avenue, New York. He serves as national legal counsel to the American Society of Interior Designers, Inc. He is general counsel the Association for Contract Textiles Inc. and the Decorative Fabrics and Furnishing Association. He is the co-author of A Guide to Business Principles and Practices for Interior Designers, published by Whitney Library of Design. He represents the legal and business interests of interior designers, architects, design trade sources, product designers and others, concentrating in the areas of contract law, commercial law, construction law, corporate law, licensing, intellectual property rights and general business law.
Farid Melki is a dynamic and versatile leader in Business Operations and Corporate Real Estate & Facilities Management with Fortune 500 companies. He has an Owner's perspective and will share his proven ability of delivering financial results, driven growth & operational excellence in hyper-competitive market and culturally diverse environments.
Todd Mion, LEEP AP is an award winning Industrial Architectural Designer with a specialty around large facilities' clients such as Intel, Cypress Semiconductor, Microchip and the US Government for Military Base design and his most recent design expertise includes a thin film manufacturing facility for Global Solar Energy in Tucson AZ. Todd's unique perspective on successfully landing large scale projects will prove to be invaluable in this challenging economy.
